8th Annual

PGM Golf Management Intern Conference

Thursday July 18th, 2019

Saucon Valley Country Club

Some great notes and advice from the expert panel!

Everyone in attendance was all ears for the 2 hour session with our expert panel!  Saucon Valley golf professionals Charlie Schuyler and Mike Wood joined Ridgewood Director of Golf David Reasoner.  We also had Summit Golf Brands VP of Sales Matt McFarlane and PGA of America Career Consultant Jonathan Gold.

Each professional provided terrific advice and networking tips to the roughly 25 students.  Here are some of my favorite take aways.

 - Networking is always about the other person.  If you make a connection or develop a new relationship, always take the time to make the other person feel the benefit and feel special.  The golden rule always applies...treat people the way you want to be treated!

 - Hire the person, train the skill!

 - What is your Professional development program?  How do you continue to improve your interns and fellow professionals?

 - Leave the game better than you found it.

 - Apply yourself in school.  Show up!  Make sure your attitude is good.  Do your best to be consistent.

 - Open a ROTH IRA...watch your finances.

 - Continuous improvement.  Use different data points to study the different areas of your life.  Try to improve one thing at a time and see where that overall philosophy takes you!

 - Always remember you are representing your school, yourself and the PGA of America.  Take pride in being a Gentlemen or Lady and take pride in being a professional.

 - Keep working on your golf game....playing this game is important!

Once again, a big thank you to our host club, Saucon Valley Country Club.
