PGM Internship Conference
The PGMIC dates back to 2011 when former golf professional Brian Dobak teamed up with Brian Soule of the Penn State PGM Program. The two had a special desire and passion to promote the PGA of America and help young aspiring golf professionals. In order to foster the education of future golf professionals, they need an avenue or forum to do so.
Born of that original idea, the Brians founded the PGM Intern Conference. The inagural event was held at the Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, PA. Merion Head Professional Scott Nye was a gracious host. With Scott's help and the vision of a few other influential PGA professionals, the first event hosted about 20 students.
Students came from clubs all over the Northeast. Many were from the Penn State PGM program but in subsequent years, the Conference has attracted students from a wide variety of schools including NC State, Clemson, Florida State, Maryland Eastern Shore, Methodist, Ferris State, Nebraska and many others.
In 2012, the Brians were excited to host the 2nd Conference but they needed a place to hold it. They turned to PGA Professional Reed Lansinger, a mutual friend to both guys. Reed was employed at Baltusrol Golf Club at the time. With Reed's help, the 2nd Annual PGM Intern Conference was held at the historic Baltusrol Golf Club. With an all star cast of PGA Professionals and a tour of the beautiful Baltusrol Campus, the popularity of the PGM Intern conference received a boom. With over 25 students in attendence, the event was a huge success.
2012 success led to 2013 success with our biggest crew ever at Aronimink Golf Club. Head Professional Jeff Kiddie hosted the event. The most recent event, the 4th Annual PGM Intern Conference was held at the Ridgewood Golf and Country Club in Paramus, NJ. David Reasoner, the Head Professional at Ridgewood hosted the event. David, along with Peter Millar rep Denny DeMarino and White Manor Teaching Professional John Dunnigan rounded out the expert panel.
For each event, the PGM Internship conference has had terrific support from clothing companies like Peter Millar and Vineyard Vines. Denny DeMarino from Peter Millar and Cory Crelan from Vineyard Vines have been gracious enough to attend, contribute and sponsor the 4 events we have had. Cory and Vineyard Vines recently signed back on to host event #5.
